Calm the Chaos: How to Find Peace When Life Feels Overwhelming

Ever have one of those days where everything just feels… a bit too much? You wake up already feeling behind, your mind is racing at 100 miles per hour, and by noon, you’re ready to tap out. Trust me, I get it. As someone with a busy brain and a constant drive to achieve, I’ve been there more times than I can count. And if you’re anything like me—neurospicy, high-achieving, and often running on empty—finding peace can feel like searching for a needle in a haystack.

The Daily Chaos: A Stressed-Out Optimist's Reality

Here’s the thing: life doesn’t have to feel like a constant state of overwhelm. I’ve discovered a few strategies that can help you press pause on the chaos and find that sweet spot of calm, even when everything around you feels like it’s spinning out of control. So, grab a cosy beverage, and let’s dive into some real talk about how to calm the chaos in your life.

Step 1: Press Pause and Just Breathe

Look, I know it sounds cliché, but when was the last time you actually took a deep breath? Like, the kind of breath that fills your lungs and makes your shoulders drop a few inches? We live in a world that glorifies hustle, but sometimes the best thing you can do is to just stop.

  • Find a quiet spot (even if it’s just your bathroom)

  • Close your eyes

  • Inhale deeply through your nose for a count of four

  • Hold it for four counts

  • Exhale slowly through your mouth for a count of six

Repeat this a few times and notice how your mind starts to quiet down. It’s a small practice, but it can be a game-changer when you’re feeling overwhelmed.

Step 2: Make Micro-Adjustments for Maximum Impact

Here’s the thing: you don’t need a complete life overhaul to find peace. In fact, I’ve found that tiny, intentional adjustments often have the biggest impact.

  • Clear Out Mental Clutter: Write down everything that’s on your mind. Get it out of your head and onto paper. This simple brain dump can free up mental space and help you see things more clearly.

  • Time Block Your Schedule: Instead of trying to juggle everything at once, break your day into focused chunks. Give yourself permission to focus on one thing at a time.

  • Set Boundaries with Your Time: Saying “no” is one of the most powerful tools in your toolkit. Protect your peace by being selective about where you invest your time and energy.

These aren’t just productivity hacks—they’re lifelines for your mental well-being.

Step 3: Reconnect with Your “Why”

When life gets chaotic, it’s easy to lose sight of what truly matters. That’s why it’s so important to reconnect with your “why.” What is that one thing that lights you up, even on the toughest days?

  • Grab a journal and reflect on why you started doing what you do.

  • Write down your core values and let them guide your decisions.

  • Set intentions for your day that align with what truly matters to you.

For me, it’s all about helping others find their calm. That’s my North Star, and it’s what keeps me grounded when the chaos starts to creep in.
